Evans, Johnson named to All-Mississippi Team |

JACKSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College sophomores Anna Evans of McCall Creek and Mallory Johnson of Brookhaven were recently named to the All-Mississippi Academic Team. Evans was named to the First Team and will receive a $1,000 scholarship and Johnson was named to the Second Team. Fifty-two members of the All-Mississippi Teams were recognized at the State Capitol by the Mississippi Legislature and honored at a luncheon. The All-Mississippi Academic Team program is coordinated by The Clarion-Ledger, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges, and the Mississippi State Board for Community and Junior Colleges.
Each college is eligible to nominate two students per campus for the Academic Team Competition. From the nominations received, 20 First, Second and Third Team members will be selected. First Team members will each receive a $2,500 cash stipend and a commemorative obelisk from USA TODAY; will be recognized during the Phi Theta Kappa Presidents Breakfast at the AACC Convention in Washington, DC; and will be featured in USA TODAY international newspaper. Second and Third Team members will each receive an engraved medallion and will be listed in USA TODAY. In addition, nominees may have the opportunity to receive recognition through the All-State Academic Team program, designed to provide the same type of recognition as the national teams, only on a state level. Evans serves as vice president for scholarship for the Eta Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, sophomore representative for the Student Government Association, secretary of Sigma Kappa Delta, and is a member of Alpha Omega and the Honors College Founding Committee. A president’s and dean’s list student, she was selected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. Evans, a nursing major, is the daughter of Angie Griffin and Anthony Evans. Johnson serves as president of the Alpha Omega Science Club, vice president of fellowship for the Eta Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, secretary and class representative of the Student Government Association, and is a member of Sigma Kappa Delta. A president’s list student, she was selected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. A pre-pharmacy major, Johnson is the daughter of Donna N. Johnson and the late Eddie Johnson of Brookhaven. |
