It is that time of year again, and that part of our lives when priorities must come first. Teachers over friends, desk over sand, and pencils over margaritas are how this summer will be different from the rest. For some, this could be the hardest concept to try and understand. However, in the long run, taking time out for one summer could make all of the rest that much better. It takes a promising job and a successful person in order to do all of the things that we will want to do one day.

Co-Lin’s Eta Omega Chapter named Top 25 in the world |

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Eta Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa named a Top 25 Chapter at the 90th Annual Phi Theta Kappa International Convention held in Philadelphia, Pa. Co-Lin President Dr. Howell Garner was presented with the Michael Bennett Lifetime Achievemenet Award. The award is presented to retiring college administrators for exemplary services rendered to Phi Theta Kappa during the course of their academic career. The retiring administrators all have a rich history of promoting the goals of Phi Theta Kappa through their support of their campus chapters and their Phi Theta Kappa regions. The Michael Bennett Lifetime A hievement Awards are named for a past president of St. Petersburg Junior College. |

TUPELO– Co-Lin’s Simpson County Center Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda received six awards at the State Leadership Conference held in Tupelo. The annual competition featured students representing more than 30 active chapters at the two-and four-year colleges and universities all across the state. It was the chapter’s first year to enter and compete in the conference.

When it comes to health care, people are bombarded with bits of information from commercials, billboards, news stories and more. Doctors and hospitals compete for business and prescription drug companies advertise products as well as the symptoms they treat. With so much to consider regarding a healthy lifestyle, it is important to validate the information through reliable sources. One such source is the CDC, Center for Disease Control. In a report for the CDC, young women are encouraged to learn more about the HPV Vaccine. Affecting about 20 million people, Human Papillomavirus, HPV, is currently the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States. HPV is usually harmless. The virus is transmitted through sexual contact but tends to remain dormant rarely progresses beyond genital warts even in severe cases. However, HPV has been gaining attention in the medical because it can be tied to cervical cancer.

TUPELO– Co-Lin’s Nu Kappa Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda received 48 awards at the State Leadership Conference held in Tupelo. The annual competition featured students representing more than 30 active chapters at the two-and four-year colleges and universities all across the state. The chapter received 15 first place awards, 16 second place awards, 11 third place awards, and one fourth place award. The group won five chapter awards including Largest Chapter in Attendance (53 members and three advisors), Largest Local Chapter in Mississippi, March of Dimes Award, Bronze Member and Lifetime Membership in the Phi Beta Lambda Foundation.

The Eta Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is participating in Project Graduation … Feed a Body, Feed a Mind, an initiative designed to help alleviate hunger and illiteracy in our community. Faculty, staff and students are asked to bring a non-perishable food item or children’s book to the Counseling Center between now and graduation.

Wolf Tales staff captures 12 awards at statewide competition |

RAYMOND - Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s student newspaper The Wolf Tales recently captured 12 awards in the Mississippi Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest. The awards were presented at a luncheon during the O.C. McDavid Journalism Conference held at Eagle Ridge Conference Center in Raymond. The staff received a third place award for General Excellence and Best Editorials, and an honorable mention for Best Layout and Design. Former co-editor Andrew Scott of Brookhaven received a first place award for Best Retail Advertisement and a second place award for Best Cartoon. Former sports editor Ben Brassfield of Mendenhall received a first place award for Best Sports Column.
