Whether it is for eyesight of the latest styles, many of us look through the glass on an everyday basis. For most, this eyewear is just an object, but has anyone ever stopped and thought about the many different stories their glasses could tell? Mysteries could be answered, and criminals could be caught. In fact, it’s been said, “Commit a crime and the earth is made of glass.” Many miracles displayed right on the other side of that clear lens. Just our day to day lives write stories that others will never have the opportunity to experience and tragedies that others will never be able to grasp the heartache that that one person might have had to feel. |

Gay marriage: Changing times call for a changing society |

It is logically proven that over time advances in society call for major change in both lifestyle and mind set. Although at first some changes seem questionable, they later prove to be accepted as the norm and we all come to terms with it. A change in society that has caused quite the uproar has been the constant debate about gay marriage. The question of whether it is right or wrong is one that stands and invokes many different strong opinions among the masses. The basis of the final decision in the matter is rather unclear, yet those with strong beliefs about the issue continue to exude extreme conviction on their stance. Many are very passionate and contentious about evincing their penchant for the legalization of gay marriage. The bottom line is gay marriage should be legal. It does not do any harm to those not directly affected by a Federal Marriage Amendment (in other words the straight community), although it affects the gay community in every aspect. As the gay community grows, so does the desire for equal rights - the same rights that heterosexual couples receive. There really is not a veritable reason why gay marriage should not be legalized, other than the non-secular arguments that are so very often brought up. |

John Locke once stated that “If the innocent honest Man must quietly quit all he has for Peace sake, to him who will lay violent hands upon it, I desire it may be considered what kind of Peace there will be in the World, which consists only in Violence and Rapine; and which is to be maintained only for the benefit of Robbers and Oppressors.” In this he states that if we surrender our rights and securities for the sake of not fighting, then we lose all that we are not fighting for. It is for these reasons that I must stand for Affirmation in this resolution today, It is just for the United States to use military force to prevent the acquisition of nuclear weapons by nations that pose a military threat.

Looking back over two years at Co-Lin, and the numerous extracurricular activities that have molded my time here, it is difficult to say how life has changed. I can’t put my hand on one class, one activity, one day, or even one semester that has solely shaped who I am today. I can say that first semester of freshman year looks nothing like the second semester of sophomore year. It’s as if my entire experience has changed without my attention. |

Ignored topics in presidential election |

Every presidential election is different. Each political season comes littered with scandals, new characters, old favorites, and plenty of excitement. The current campaigns are no different. Twenty-four hour news networks turn molehills into mountains with every small incident that can be considered news. Millions tune in as weeks of campaigning and side jabbing pay off in the eventual primaries feeling similar to a staged dramatization in the end. I find it hard to believe that so many important topics are going unnoticed right under the eyes of all Americans closely watching the race.

Falling in love with music leads to conflict between work and fun |

Music is considered by some to be the greatest gift to mankind; An expression of something that can't be put into words, yet cannot be kept silent. Fortunately or unfortunately, however you may percieve it, music plays a huge role in my life. Why do we love music? Is it the title of "greatest gift to mankind"? or something more theoretical? It was once said that music was the expressed form of something that couldn't be put into words, but could not be kept silent. I tend to lean toward the latter of the two. |

With the end of the school year approaching, I find myself reviewing the events of my first year in college. It is amazing to me when I see how much I have changed, and how much I have learned. I have experienced things that have made me into a better person. Thankfully, with the exception of one class, I survived my first year here at Co-Lin. I have learned what to do, and what not to do in college. I have learned just how much it takes to succeed in my classes, and I feel much better prepared for next year. I have found things that have turned me into a better person—a stronger person—and I know I am ready for my second year.
